Food is good Service is Bad
(Mon, Jan 4, '10):
The pizzas here are pretty good, but the service is very bad. Even to get a simple glass of warm water it seemed like they were doing me a favour. Not the level of service you expect in a restaurant in Tokyo. I would have tolerated this level of service elsewhere but in Japan this is really bad.

Good pizza poor service.
(Mon, Mar 19, '07):
The name Pizzakaya didn't sound very promising, but I was pleasantly suprised with the pizzas here. The pizzas are not exactly what you'd get in the states but they are pretty good if you want western-style pizza. I think it satisfied my pizza cravings for the first time living in Japan. The volume of the toppings/cheese is actually more generous than what you'd typically get in the states (but then you're paying for it!) but the crust could be crispier. The downside of this place is their service. Disorganized and rude. The service level seemed to fluctuate depending on the customer, which I found very annoying. Sad to say I'm used to the rude service in the states but when you get it in Japan, it really stands out and I now remember the poor service more over the good pizzas. I would go somewhere else for pizza next time.

Pizzakaya:- the revisit
(Mon, Mar 19, '07):
I have to admit, it's been some time since I last ate at this place, so upon hearing what other people had to say I thought it was high time for another trip.
My partner and I have been ordering take-away pizza from Pizzakaya instead of eating in, and I guess the fact that it takes over an hour for the thing to arrive should have been a small indication of what was in store when you eat in.
I was hugely disappointed in the decline in service. It took the waiter FOREVER to come over to take our order, and in fact we were reduced to yelling our order over other people because he seemed reluctant (i.e. couldn't be bothered) to come closer to our table. The food took the longest time to arrive, and yes, they messed up our order. Not usually something that I get massively annoyed over - unless you know that it'll take them another hour to get it right.
To summarise:- The waiter was unattentive at best and rude at worst, the length of time for food to arrive was unacceptable, and the wine pretty naff. The pizza on the other hand was still some of the best I have had in Tokyo. Although the food is great, the service was so shocking that it would make me think twice about going there again. If time is a factor & you expect good service (this is Japan afterall), eat somewhere else.

Good food is not enough
(Mon, Mar 12, '07):
I enjoyed their pizza. it was American style pizza and it was good. The service was bad and really under par in Tokyo standard. I do believe they are trying to provide good service but only to the customers who know them. From what I have noticed, if you know the owner, they are super friendly and your food come will come at the right speed. If not, good luck. You can wait a looooong long time. Will I go back? Don't think so.

Never Again
(Sat, Mar 10, '07):
So I posted a not so positive experience the first time last year. A friend really wanted to come here so we did, we believe in 2nd chances, after all. The service was appalling. I don't think I've been to a restaurant with worse service in Tokyo. When seated, I looked for the servers to come by so we can order drinks. The guy waved me over as if to say, come here so I can take your order. I didn't think we were at a self service restaurant. Almost 1 hour after ordering, we received part of our order. We later realized they forgot part of our order because the guy said since we used a coupon and it was free, it was forgotten. Ok.... He promised it would come shortly after and apologized profusely. Fair enough. He then offered to give us a discount for our wait but one in our party said out of politeness, "no, it's ok" without giving it further thought. Finally the pizza came and it was good enough. The bill came and we said, "there was no discount" and the guy said, "you said it was ok." Obviously they don't know how to value customers nor want us to come back. So we won't. On a positive note, we asked for a non smoking table and they made the whole restaurant non smoking for our benefit. The pizza was decent. Sad to say that we won't return though because the wait was just too long and we did not have a good night out as a result.

Only OK
(Fri, Apr 7, '06):
Was a little disappointed since other reviews stated it was'the best pizza' in Tokyo. After living in Tokyo a number of years, I guess my taste has become more refined and I no longer like "American Pizza." I mean, it's not Dominoes but this style cannot compare to Napoli pizza. The crust is heavy. They have some unique flavours, we had CCOB- Cranbery, Chicken, Onion and Brie. Not bad. The Babaganouche is good, with nice flavour. Would probably not return as the service was also really slow and it felt too diner-ish. At Y3000 for a large pizza, I think I would go elsewhere. Do try their 'sushi pizza' though. It's topped with sashimi and avocado. An aquired taste.

if you enjoy american style pizza!
(Mon, Apr 3, '06):
pizzakaya is one place to get it, and it's pretty damn good actually. personally i prefer carry out as the last time i was there they had installed a surround sound system and flat screen which was blasting and basically extinguished all conversation. (not to mention it was south park and there were loud sounds of vomiting or shitting happening every minute or so).
a bit on the expensive side, but what isn't here!

Pizza for the Fat Bastard
(Mon, Apr 3, '06):
This is place alright. Especially if you want something to go with your beer on a Sunday afternoon NFL viewing session on your couch. Don't bother if you prefer Napoli style or even NY style pizzas as you will get disappointed. Made for the Americano customer.

Probably the best pizza in Tokyo
(Mon, Apr 3, '06):
As the title of this review would suggest, Pizzakaya does pretty damn good pizza.
If you fancy a good old-fashioned western-style pizza (i.e. with no bizarre Asian twists to the recipe), then this is definitely the place to go.
The 'all you can eat' lunch set is fab. The pizzas are cooked in front of you so you know they are fresh from the oven.
The only thing to note is that the restaurant (although spotlessly clean) is more like a diner than a restaurant, therefore perhaps not the place for a romantic dinner.
For those wanting pizza in front of the TV, you can also order a take-away.
