Good experience...but noisy  (Tue, Jun 3, '08): Went there yesterday night with a friend. The place was full but we managed to get a table pretty quick. They have an english menu which is very convenient... We tried their scallop (yummy), the asparagus, some fish pate and some salad. Everything was nice, but thumbs up for the scallops! However I ddin't like my umeshu - it was not sweet??? Anyway, good value for money. 2 of us, 4050 yen including drinks. The only thing is the place is very noisy - but I guess you can't help it!

Andy's is Great  (Wed, Apr 9, '08): Just don't drink 3 bottles of Andy's special Shochu....not that I would ever (remember). It is the kind of place where the alcohol is plentiful and the food is surprisingly gorgeous. Especially Andy's sashimi - yowza! So fresh and ridiculously cheap. I highly recommend, it is Izakaya not westernized - but not too scary for the Western visitor or Expat. I had the most incredible Mackerel Sashimi - but everytime I go I am impressed, satisfied and happy when the check comes. It is an amazing bargain!

Too smokey  (Mon, Apr 16, '07): Food is great. Salary man feel is wonderful. Food is spectacular. Very cheap. But why does it have to be so smokey??? I guess it adds to the Japan experience. Good place to bring guests.

Most viewed restaurant  (Fri, Mar 23, '07): This is by far the most viewed restaurant in vaou and I am always surprised by how many visitors it gets. If I had a most viewed restaurant section, it would probably rank number 1. I remember it was a great place to hang out where you can enjoy few beers with good friends. And it's still the case. But what I don't remember it's how good their food tastes. The fish dishes were super yummy. I am not a big fan of scallop but this place is an exception. The deep fried chicken was nothing special but was still good. In sum, I enjoyed the ambiance, the food and the cost was not even high. Highly recommended and perfect place to bring some visitors and to show them some local Japanese Izakaya experience. Andy will always be there in case you need an English speaker.

Fish, fish, and more fish  (Thu, Mar 22, '07): One word:- Yummy! The fish was so fresh, it was to die for. The beef was also pretty damned good. As per the other reviews, speak to Andy for recommendations over what is good on the menu - his advice does not disappoint! This place is also very good value for money. Drinks included, we paid 3500円. Only one downside - it's pretty damned smokey in there. I guess that's the price you pay for eating at a place that seems to be a firm favourite for ex-pats and salarymen alike.

Fave for a Friday  (Tue, Jan 10, '06): This is my favourite place in Tokyo for Friday night atmosphere - a buzzing izakaya nestling in the railway arches - the trains rumbling overhead just add to the atmosphere. Plates full of cheap, tasty food - try the giant buttered scallops, teriyaki fish, sashimi, fried chicken - or just ask Andy what he recommends from the fish market today. Wash it down with fresh grapefruit sours - order enough of them and they'll just bring the bottle of sho-chu to your table!

Hey, that fish is still moving!  (Sun, Dec 18, '05): A favourite hangout for many expats in Tokyo and for good reason. The price is right, the service is good and the food is simple but tasty. One of my favourites is the sushi, which apparently Andy (the proprietor of the izakaya) buys fresh from Tsukji every day. The only minor bad thing is the washroom; people over 5.5 feet tall will have some problems manouvering into the cramped quarters.

Under the train  (Thu, Dec 1, '05): Very interesting izakaya as it looks like it's been there for ages and u can feel the table move each time the train passes by. Above all, it's a true izakaya with awesome grilled fish, deep fried chicken wing and beers that you can enjoy with a few friends.
